Thanks to my Italian heritage and PCOS, I have always been a little “hairy”. I kept saying to myself when I finished breastfeeding I would get IPL, but mum-life meant I never found the time- and to be honest I felt a little self-concious going into a salon as well.

So when I was asked to try Remington’s i-LIGHT Smooth Sense - an at home IPL device - and give an honest review, I thought the only thing I had to lose was was unwanted hair - lol, sorry #mumjoke.

Designed with an integrated skin tone sensor that continuously reads the colour of your skin 100 times per second, the Remington i-LIGHT® Smooth Sense is safe and effective on a wider range of skin tones.

When I mentioned I was trialling this on my Inta Stories I got an influx of questions.  How does it work, does it hurt and most importantly - DOES IT WORK?! So after 8 weeks, I am happy to share my experience.

How do you use it?

Simply plug it in, hold against your skin then press to zap! As you move the device around it adjusts the power as needed, reading your skin tone before every flash and tailoring each flash to your skin, for the best efficacy and highest safety. A full treatment regime is once every two weeks for three treatments. There are three modes regular, express and sensitive. It works on a range of skin tones, but you can’t have had any sun exposure 2 weeks prior or during treatment time- so winter is the best time to try. You also can’t use it if you have had IPL in the past 6 months .

Does it hurt?

Not really. Some parts over the bone are a little sensitive, but definitely bearable. There is a sensitive mode for more delicate areas like the bikini line and underarms. I didn’t do my face, but would imagine it would be a little more sensitive.

Does it work?

This is what you have been waiting for, right?! Did it reduce my hair significantly? Yes. I still have some lighter sparse hairs, but it did a really great job. I would estimate 70% reduction in my hair on my legs and the hair that is there is lighter and finer. The hair on my underarms is about 80% gone.

As mentioned you are not meant to tan- real or fake- during treatment time, but I had some events so I did fake tan after the first 2 week treatment and then had an extra break in between treatments. I think my results would have been better if I stuck to the recommendations. Because of this I will give it another top up in a couple of weeks.

I have never had IPL in a salon, so I can’t compare the experience or results, but I do know that I have significantly less hair on my legs and underarms. So if you are looking for a quick and easy at-home hair removal treatment that works, I would recommend the Remington i-LIGHT® Smooth Sense.

Love to hear how you go!
