When it comes to make-up and skin care it can be so overwhelming picking out products, and we're often led to believe that more expensive the product, the better it is. Sure, in some cases, you get what you pay for, but not always. Sometimes it's the classic products, the cult buys that have been around forever (think what our mums and grandmas were using), that have stood the test of time that we overlook..

Who would know better than the people who have access to the best of the best; the celebrities, who despite all the choice, still go back to the budget buys and the classics.

1. Olivia Wilde

She's one of our absolute favourite Hollywood mamas and so when we heard Olivia Wilde uses Cetaphil cleanser, $11.99 we loved her that little bit more. "I use the cheapest possible skin care—not because it's cheap, but because it's the best. Dermatologists have recommended it for years and I've never paid attention. But recently I started using Cetaphil cleanser. [It's] gentle and simple." Charlize Theron, Clare Danes and Zoe Saldana are all fans of Cetaphil as well - you don't have to tell us twice.

2. Natalie Portman

Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman removes her make-up every night with Bioderma Micellar Water, she tells Harpers Bazaar US. Ok so at $29.99 this isn't the most budget of the bunch but this stuff is liquid gold. It removes make-up and cleanses your face (thanks to the micelles or molecules that are attracted to dirt and oil on your skin) it's also gentle on sensitive skin because it's soap-free, fragrance-free, alcohol-free and hypoallergenic - so it won't leave you dry so you can go sans moisturiser afterwards if so inclined. There's a reason this product is sold once every five seconds around the world it's a serious MVP to have in your beauty arsenal.

3. Kate Hudson

She's a busy mum-of-two boys (with a little girl on the way!) so Kate Hudson knows that multi-tasking products are your best friend as a mum. Enter Egyptian Magic, $23.99. You can use this baby on everything from your face, body, hair, cuts, bites, rashes - you name it - plus it's all natural so #winning. If that's not enough, Madonna, Eve Mendes and Gisele Bundchen are also fans.

4. Meghan Markle

She might be royalty now, but that doesn't mean Meghan Markle doesn't love a bargain. The Duchess swears by Essie nail polish, $15, (so much she wore it on her wedding day - opting for Ballet Slippers, a soft shade of pink for her big day).

5. Kim Kardashian

If there's one thing the Kardashians know, it's make-up. And Kim loves L'Oreal Voluminous in Carbon Black. "I've been using this product for years! The colour is the perfect shade of black and it really lifts and separates each lash," she previously shared on her app. "It's perfect for an everyday look, or you can layer on multiple coats for a more dramatic effect," she added. Sadly this exact one isn't available in Australia, so here is another similar one.

6. Nicole Richie

So this one isn't ground-breaking we know, but Nicole Richie's favourite product is probably in about 90% of all us Aussie mama's baby bags. For the uninitiated, Nic knows Paw Paw ointment is where it's at. If you're looking for one without the hidden nasties, we love Pure Papaya, $9.99.

7. Margot Robbie

When Margot Robbie isn't walking the red carpet or starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, she likes to keep her make-up minimal, and loves a good simple lip balm. Her go-to? Burt's Bees Lip Balm, $6.99.

8. Emma Watson

Emma Watson is known for her love of natural, eco-friendly products and she loves Aussie brand Sukin and in particular, their Hydrating Mist Toner, $10.95.
