KIDS DECOR WITH TALO INTERIORS

talo1 The world of kid’s décor can be a little overwhelming. Instagram feeds are flooded with rooms that should be in magazines, super cool interior brands are popping up weekly- Scandanavian, minimal, vintage, colourful… the choices are endless and the head starts to spin.. Thankfully Eliza and Katie, the two talented mamas behind e-boutique Talo Interiors have made things a little easier. Not only have the busy ladies (five kids between them- including a 3 week old!) created a one-stop shop of carefully curated pieces, but they have just launched their own linen with two stunning designs. Today they share some helpful decorating tips and take us through the current key trends in kids interiors.

How did Talo Interiors begin?

The idea came about in early 2013 on a day out shopping. We launched our e-boutique in November 2013. Being at the stage where our eldest child was moving into a big bed, we saw an opportunity for a store that specialized in unique designer made products for kids bedrooms or playrooms. Essentially, we wanted to love the pieces in their room as much as we love the pieces in the rest of our home.

What are your top decorating tips?

Keep your key furniture items in a neutral colour. Takes some risks and have fun with decorating! That way you can change it up as your kids grow and you want a fresh new look! And there’s nothing like a good slash of paint to brighten up a room! Obviously trends influence what we buy, however try to buy things that you love, not necessarily that are on trend. We love the minimalistic simple look, you don’t need a lot of things, try to avoid clutter. And storage is key.

What are your current top 3 must have items for this season?

Our quilt cover sets (of course!)– 101 Teepees and Hand Picked Lemons. Varpunen Storage Sacks in all designs and anything Mushkane – particularly rugs and smartie

Talk us through your new bedding range

Screen printed on 100% linen, our new boutique bedding range has been designed in collaboration with talented Melbourne based artist Pip Compton. We wanted to create something high quality, beautiful to look at and not in mass quantities. Illustrations have been hand drawn and screen printed using eco friendly dyes that are free from harmful substances. Our quilt sets come is 2 designs, 101 Teepees (pictured below)and Hand Picked Lemons (pictured above). Each design has a limited print run. Quilt sets, including quilt cover and pillowcase, are available in single, $185.00 and king single (double) $215.00.
